Smoother jQuery Animations in IE - Determined By Your Image Size
I have to say that this is perhaps the only article on the web I have seen that talks about the issue of IE making jQuery animations choppy. Peter does a good job in providing a solution for us when it comes to smoother performances. But at the same time, addresses the real issue - IE.
